In order to reduce airborne noise, absorption material is required. These types of materials often have the property of retaining some heat. It is therefore important to consider how much free space around the refrigerator is required. - Built-in space
Pay attention to the free space you need for the various products we offer. There will be situations where products need to be applied under or behind the refrigerator. First measure how much space you have available before ordering. - Fan (PowerCooling)
Do not put too many things on the top shelf inside the refrigerator, blocking the fan will cause the refrigerator to produce more noise (usually the first noise problem solved in no time!). - Are you in doubt?
If you are not sure whether the tips below are feasible in your situation, please contact the supplier of your refrigerator. We have done our best to take into consideration as many kinds of situations as possible.
- Acusticab
Self-adhesive absorption plate with a protective, white, oil- and moisture-tight top layer at the front. Keep clean with a damp cloth. Can be cut to size with a hobby knife. We recommend a thickness of at least 38 mm, art. No W0022. Multiple types available. - Flamex Basic
No protective top layer, therefore higher absorption values, fire class C. Particularly easy to cut to size with a hobby knife. Mounting with Stauf kit. We recommend, if possible, a thickness of 50 mm, art. no. K0042. Multiple types available.
- Regufoam Strips (small/light built-in refrigerator).
Divide these 12 mm thick strips into equal parts and apply them evenly to the bottom of the furniture. On the strips, apply a sheet material to distribute the weight of the refrigerator over the strips, this can be plywood or similar. The plate should definitely not touch the furniture anywhere! In the example, a steel plate was used because of the limited space. The number of strips is determined by the size and weight of the refrigerator. If there is enough space inside the furniture, it is recommended to stick two strips on top of each other. In this way, the strip can be loaded more heavily, and vibrations can be insulated even better. This is certainly recommended with heavily loaded refrigerators so that they do not press in the strips too much.
In the sample photos above, a single layer of Regufoam Strips is used. We received the photos including the following reaction from an excited customer:
"A few weeks ago, I visited the Acoustics Shop in Gorinchem (the Netherlands) since I wanted to reduce the penetrating noise of my fridge-freezer installation, especially the 100 Hz hum that is produced by the compressor when it is running at full power. This disturbing hum is severely amplified by the acoustics of the cabinet in which the fridge-freezer is located and can be heard in a big part of the house. Subsequently, you gave me some sample material: three insulation strips, (for which I want to thank you again!) which I have now applied. We agreed that I would update you about the results, so here you go. The accompanying photos show what I have done: the applied strips, an aluminium plate of 1 mm on top of it since the fridge-freezer combination did not have space to be placed higher up inside the furniture (see attached photo). The result is as follows:
1. When the compressor is switched on at full power, the sound (hum) has been reduced from 50dB to 40dB.
2. During 'normal' use (meaning no extra freezing, frost mode) or if the cabinet has been out of use for several hours) there is practically no sound perceptible anymore. This is a huge improvement!"
- Regufoam Unidemper (heavy fridges and wine coolers)
The heavier refrigerators, American model, and wine coolers are ideally placed on 4 to 8 Unidemper Basic dampers (1 set = 4 dampers) due to high weight. Place the dampers on the floor with a solid plate on top of it that is at least as big as the refrigerator. Usually, a heart-to-heart distance of 60 cm between each damper is sufficient. Preferably, the dampers are not pressed in more than 15%. If you are bothered by the purple colour of the damper, you can wrap Acustitape around it.
Do you hear the refrigerator less when you push firmly against the furniture board? This often indicates a lack of mass and stiffness in the furniture. The light furniture board is set in motion by the refrigerator, resulting in a humming sound. In that case it can be a nice addition to the aforementioned tips to equip these surfaces with Isomat TS by means of contact glue. Using Isomat, the weight increases, and the sound decreases. We recommend Isomat TS, type 14 kg/m², art.nr. W0242.
Sometimes, a thin or light countertop creates a hollow echo in the kitchen when you are working on the countertop as well. Here too, Isomat TS can provide improvement, in which case the material will hang upside down on the countertop and you will have to mount the 14-kilo heavy plate using contact glue and screws.
