Muting Bass Sounds from Loudspeakers and Subwoofers

Loudspeakers and subwoofers improve your overall experience of sound. However, loud bass sounds travelling through your walls and floors can form a source of annoyance to your neighbours. What is the best way to mute bass tones? We have the solution.

Determining the type of sound problem
Loudspeakers and subwoofers can produce various sounds. Loud bass sounds and vibration for example. On the basis of the volume of the music it’s possible to determine what kind of sound is being produced. In most cases when music is playing, contact noise is being produced. Especially at high volumes the furniture, walls and floor may start to vibrate along with the music. If this is your case, the solution to solve this problem is vibration insulation.

Vibration dampers
In order to mute the vibration from loudspeakers and subwoofers, like in the picture, you can use the vibration insulation material Regufoam. You can easily it cut to size by using a knife, making it fit underneath any device. Do you prefer a pre-cut product? Than you should choose Hifi Damper Pads. After you applied one of these products, vibrations will stop travelling through furniture, walls, and floors.

Customer Experience
One of our clients experienced nuisance by the neighbours’ Sonos speaker. Even though these neighbours didn’t turn up the volume very high, our customer still noticed the vibration of the speaker. In order to solve this problem, we advised our client to place a Regufoam mat underneath the neighbours’ loudspeaker. To this end, our customer used a Regufoam mat of 500x250x25 mm. This was enough material to mute the vibration of the Sonos loudspeaker.

In case the sound is not muted enough, doubling the thickness of the applied piece of Regufoam to 50 mm should lead to an improvement of the results. In this case the distance the sound needs to travel is even longer, making sure lower frequencies are insulated even better.
