Insulating the hull

Noise from the ships hull
Vibration from the engine(s), propulsion, bow thruster and other machinery can be transferred to the ships hull can cause noise problems throughout the ship. The best solution is to insulate the ships hull surrounding the source of the vibrations, at least for about 2 meter around the sources we just mentioned. This method of insulation is called anti-drumming or sandwich anti-drumming, depending on the product you choose to insulate your boat or vessel with. Anti-drumming is the isolation of vibrations directly at the source preventing vibrations to travel through the hull, stern or transom.

How to insulate the ships hull?
Make sure the surfaces that you want to insulate are free of any dirt, rust and loose paint or coatings. To insulate vibrations in the ships hull, and surface in close vicinity to any source, we recommend to use Vibradamp A90P in combination with Zincor plates. This is called sandwich anti-drumming and will give the best result in steel ships with a hull, partition walls, transom and stern thicker than 5 mm.

Apply Vibradamp A-90-P two-component paste at least 1,5 to 2 meters around the source in a ratio of 1:1:4. This ratio means that for every 4 mm steel thickness you apply 1 mm paste and 1 mm Zincor steel plates. The Zincor steel plates function as counter plates and are pressed into the paste with a gap of about 15 mm between each plate. The insulated surfaces will vibrate significantly less, as it were, and the gong sound is greatly reduced.
