How much do I need for good sound attenuation?
In order to properly dampen (insulate) sheet metal, the mass of the surface to be insulated must be at least doubled. To effectively isolate sound and resonances, provide at least 70% of the surface with sound deadening material. For applications in vehicles, for example the underbody, it is better to provide the entire surface with sound deadening. This is because there is often contact and airborne noise here.

What it is and does:
Vibraflex is a set of sound deadening and sound insulation panels especially intended to remove the gong effect in sheet materials such as steel, aluminium and plastic. Vibraflex used in the applications for which it is intended and worked correctly takes, as it were, a tight hold of the sheet material to prevent resonances passing through the sheet. This in turn eliminates the gong effect.

Which type do I use where?
There are two types of Vibraflex available in boxes cut into handy and easy to use mats. Vibraflex Extreme and Normal. You apply this product in the following places/ways.

  • Vibraflex Normal
This variant weighs 5 kg/m² and is used on vertical parts of thin sheet material (steel, aluminium or plastic). For example in doors and against side panels. This type can also be used in steel housings and equipment housings of a steel thickness of up to approx. 1.5 mm.
  • Vibraflex Extreme
This variant weighs 8 kg/m² and is used on slightly angled and horizontal parts (meaning flat) such as the bodywork, floor, bulkhead and wheel arches. This type can be applied to a sheet thickness of up to approx. 3 mm.

Properties

  • Sound deadening and soundproofing.
  • Fire class E according to EN 13501-1.
  • Specially cut into handy sheets.
  • Supple (after heating).
  • Self-adhesive

Assembly Tips
Make sure that the surface to be insulated is clean and degreased. Vibraflex is best processed at room temperature or just above. You can use a paint stripper or hair dryer to heat the material and make it more flexible. Do not make the Vibraflex too hot, the material must be able to be processed with bare hands. Avoid air bubbles between the Vibraflex and the surface. These cavities can fill with moisture, causing rust to form. Use our Vibraflex Pressure Roller to easily apply the material and mould it perfectly to the substrate.

On the Acoustic Shop YouTube channel you will find instruction videos of various insulation work.
