Polypress acoustic foam can be used to create a decoupled or floating floor in homes, boats, yachts and studios. The resilient property of the material reduces impact noise. Polypress is applied by laying directly on the existing floor with a sheet material for distributing pressure, this can be a double layer of plasterboard or plywood of a combination of both.

What is Polypress and what does it do:
Polypress is an acoustic foam product that is used to insulate vibrations and to reduce impact noise. The is product is made of bonded polyurethane flakes that has the ability to recover from pressure and constant vibrations. Use Polypress to decouple floors and walls.

Applications
Polypress, 20 mm thick, is used in studios and listening room to reduce vibrations to and from adjacent rooms or buildings. You can also apply this particular product on floors of ships and yachts to insulate engine noise and vibrations. When the Polypress is applied, place a load-bearing layer of a stiff material on top of this relative soft material. The best thing to do is to place a double layer of a stiff material, such as plywood for example, to distribute weight. This will prevent the floor covering, such as wood, laminate or parquet, from bending or cracking.

  • Polypress D80 20 mm: The softest Polypress variant is suitable for filling cavities, sound absorption in dry and clean environments, decoupling floors (D80 20 mm) and insulating equipment, only where fire certification is not important.
  • Polypress D80 50 mm: The best product to make a Drum riser or stage for drum kits and drum sets. Isolate a drum kit to reduce impact noise from the drum bass. Look for more info on this topic on our tips page.
  • Polypress Strips: The Polypress Strips have a density of 300 kg/m³ and are used to prevent a floating floor or drum riser touching the walls. This product is needed to insulate vibrations from and to the surrounding area of your insulated floor.

Properties
Polypress acoustic foam is made from cutting waste that arises during the manufacture and processing of soft foams. Polypress is compressible and permanently elastic. It also has a good recovery capacity. Other properties are:

  • Dimensions: 1000 x 600mm.
  • Thickness:  20 and 50 mm.
  • Vibration insulating.
  • Sound absorbing.
  • Acoustic foam density: 80 kg/m³.

Processing tips
Polypress is easy to cut to size with a sharp knife. The substrate on which the Polypress is placed must be and remain dry (use in damp or moist rooms a foil to keep the product dry). When making a floating floor, pay attention to whether the distance between the bottom of the doors and the finishing floor is large enough. The floor can be quite a bit higher.

It is preferable to decouple equipment and machines with Regufoam or Regufoam Damper Pads. If you can't figure it out, don't hesitate to get in touch with us!
