How to insulate airborne noise from upstairs neighbours?
Airborne noises are soundwaves travelling by air, when the sound level (loud music, voices etc.) gets to high the air in our apartment or house gets set in motion to becomes audible as loud music. To insulate airborne noise to- and from upstairs neighbours you need to install an acoustic ceiling, what we call a decoupled ceiling. This type of ceiling acts as a suspended construction without a fixation to the building. This way the ceiling acts as a barrier filled with an acoustic material that hold noise and vibrations. How to insulate impact noise from upstairs neighbours?
Noise nuisances and sound related problems from upstairs neighbours are mostly impact noise related. Impact noise starts as vibrations or resonances in solid matter, concrete or wooden flooring. Most common are ticking heels and footsteps from neighbours walking, moving furniture and appliances such dryers, washing machines or a refrigerator for example. These impact noises become audible and we hear those as humming noises from appliances and household equipment. For the best result impact noise should be applied and installed at the source, when the upstairs neighbours would install a decoupled floor then this should give the best result, for airborne noise as well as for impact noise.

With a screed floor on Regupol Comfort you can isolate impact noise and prevent it from entering the structure of the building. Older houses with a wooden floors (planks or plywood on wooden beams) you can insulate the floor by adding mass using Isomat KE. What to expect in terms of results?
To solve some noise nuisances or acoustic adjustments to a building the source should be approached to get the best result possible. This is certainly the case for vibrations and impact noise coming from equipment such as household appliances and machines. For instance, an airconditioning unit on a roof should be isolated from the roof with vibrations insulation, do not insulate the ceiling under the roof since vibrations will be distributed via the rood/ceiling and walls of the building.
