Building speakers

Build your own speakers Luidsprekers bouwen
There are a lot of different speakers on the market, but how a speaker should sound is a matter of taste. There are many products and materials with which to build loudspeakers. On this page we would like to present some (general) tips and products to you to build loudspeakers or to adapt or improve existing loudspeakers.

The speaker cabinet
When building a loudspeaker housing, it is important that the housing is as rigid as possible so that there are as few resonances as possible in the construction. The less the housing resonates, the better the speaker sounds.

In general, self-build loudspeakers are made from a wood board such as MDF or a plywood type. These sheet materials are easy to process but usually not heavy enough to withstand resonances. Extra reinforcements in the shape compartments often already provide an improvement. For the construction of the loudspeaker cabinet it is best to use sandwich panels or make it yourself. The ready-made product, Merfoplex, is an excellent choice here as a construction panel. Installing Isomat TS14 yourself between two layers of sheet material is of course also an option.

Speaker Fill
To prevent standing waves from forming in the housing or a hollow reverberation, sound absorption should be installed in the housing. You can use Akotherm for this. The amount or type of Akotherm is determined by the desired sound. A combination of high and low density applied to each other usually gives the best sound. First provide the walls with a low-density Akotherm Basic with a high-density Akotherm GG.

Unpairing speakers
To disconnect the speaker, use Regufoam. The type of Regufoam is determined by the weight of the loudspeaker. The Audio Dampers are pre-processed Regufoam feet and suitable for loudspeakers, subwoofers and audio components.
