Sound absorption with a top layer
Merfocell PU is sound-absorbing foam made of polyurethane. The panel has an oil, dirt and moisture-proof top layer of polyurethane foil (PU). It is mainly used in engine rooms and machine and equipment housings such as pumps and generators. Merfocell is provided with CE certification. Available in 2 thicknesses.

What it is and does:
Merfocell PU is a sound-absorbing polyurethane foam with a PU top layer (polyurethane film). This top layer protects the foam against the ingress of moisture, dirt and oil. The colour of the foam is anthracite. The colour of the PU top layer is black.
Applications
Merfocell PU is used, among other things, to absorb sound in and from engine boxes, generators, compressors, ships and pleasure craft. This product can also be used under the hood in cars, buses and campers. Our advice for applications near combustion engines: keep at least 8 to 10 cm space between hot parts of the sound source/motor and the Merfocell PU panels.
For diesel engines, use the thickest type of 50 mm. The thicker the material, the higher the absorption values. Does heat play an above-average role? Then use Merfocell FC or, for extreme cases, Flamex FC (only on straight surfaces).

Assembly Tips
Degrease the surface very thoroughly and ensure as few seams and gaps as possible during installation. These can become sound leaks. Use PU Finishing Tape to mask these potential sound leaks and seams to avoid intrusion of moisture, dirt and oil.
Similar products with a PU top layer
Merfocell PU is comparable to products such as Acousticcell PU. Acousticcell PU is finished with a black and white PU top layer. Flamex PU has a base of a more fire-resistant foam material but can only be mounted on a flat surface, Flamex is stiffer than other sound absorbers and has a heat resistance up to 100°c.
